The post-assessment entry option can be used:

  • in the case of extended absence beyond the first 5 weeks of Kindergarten

  • if a parent has requested a student be withdrawn from the assessment

  • for marking multiple responses, or the rest of a student assessment, as ‘no attempt’ or ‘not given’

  • for entry of responses if the interactive version is unavailable and assessments have been completed using the paper version of the assessments. Please note that this view is not to be used for administering the assessment as it does not contain the full instructions and examples.

  1. From the 'Select student' screen:  Click the 'Post-assessment entry' button for the student and assessment (BSKA literacy or numeracy) you want to administer.

  2. The Post-assessment entry screen displays:
    • student name and assessment name

    • all assessment questions and responses in one page, grouped by the assessment section

  3. Select the student's response by clicking on the radio button. You can also type in any additional information in the Comment field.

  4. Click the 'Save progress' button save the responses.

  5. You can pause the assessment by clicking the 'Save progress' button then select 'Select student' from the menu. This will open the 'Select student' screen where you will see the student's assessment completion status is now 'In progress'.

  6. Marking multiple questions in a section at once: You may bulk-mark some sets of questions as 'correct', 'incorrect', 'no attempt' or 'not given'. Click the 'Mark the remaining questions in this section as...' button located at the assessment section header.

  7. Mark remaining student assessment responses as ‘no attempt’ or ‘not given’: When selecting student responses to assessment items, please note that there is an important difference between ‘no attempt’ and ‘not given’. Teachers should select ‘no attempt’ when a student does not respond to an assessment item that has been delivered. ‘Not given’ should be selected when a teacher does not deliver an assessment item.
    • Click the 'Mark the remaining questions in this assessment as...' button located at the top-left side of the screen.

    • Select 'No attempt' or 'Not given' from the options.

    • The response 'no attempt' or 'not given' may not apply to all questions. Please review the assessment items indicated in red text individually to ensure that a valid response has been applied. See the example below.

  8. Marking a student as absent: The Best Start Kindergarten Assessment can be administered at any time within a student's first five weeks of school. If a student has been absent for the first five weeks of the school year, teachers should mark the student as 'Absent' and lodge the assessment temporarily.
    • Click the 'Mark this student as absent/withdrawn' button on the top-right side of the screen.

    • Select 'Absent' from the options then click 'Confirm' button.

    • Click the ‘Lodge assessment’ button located at the bottom of the screen to lodge the assessment.

  9. Marking a student as withdrawn upon parental consent: By marking this assessment as 'Withdrawn upon parental consent', you confirm that you have obtained signed parental consent to withdraw the student from this assessment. The 'Request to withdraw' form can be found in the Assessment administration guide. The signed form must be kept with the student's records.
    • Click the 'Mark this student as absent/withdrawn' button on the top-right side of the screen.

    • Select 'Withdrawn upon parental consent' from the options then click 'Confirm' button. Upon selecting 'Withdrawn upon parental consent', all responses will populate with the response ‘not given’ and the reason ‘Withdrawn upon parental consent’.

    • Click the 'Lodge assessment' button located at the bottom of the screen to lodge the assessment.
