Oveview

  • The Phonics diagnostic assessment is mapped to the National Literacy Learning Progression and records information in PLAN2.
  • Teachers can navigate to PLAN2 via the Phonics diagnostic assessment online tool, or access PLAN2 directly to view and analyse class observations and snapshot of students' learning.
  • PLAN2 supports the use of literacy and numeracy learning progressions in all NSW schools.

How to navigate to PLAN2 via the Phonics diagnostic assessment online tool

In the Phonics diagnostic assessment main page:

  1. Select the Year level, Class or group and word list that you want to analyse.


  2. Select the Class analysis button. Select an option from the dropdown menu:
    1. Analyse a snapshot of student learning in PLAN2 - this opens the PLAN2 Cohort snapshot analysis
    2. View or record further observations in PLAN2 - this opens the PLAN2 Class observations

  3. PLAN2 will open in a new browser tab. The Cohort snapshot analysis or the Class observations will be generated based on your selected year level and class. These fields will be pre-filled for you:
    1. Year level
    2. Class or group
    3. Students
    4. Domain - Literacy
    5. Observation dates - this field is used in Cohort snapshot analysis, defaults to "Any date"
    6. Assessment - Phonics diagnostic assessment (PHON-DA)
    7. Sub-elements and levels - sub-elements, levels and progression indicators related to Phonics diagnostic assessment



How to view assessment information in PLAN2 Cohort snapshot analysis

  1. The Cohort snapshot analysis will be generated for you when you navigate to PLAN2 from the Phonics diagnostic assessment online tool. When you generate the Cohort snapshot analysis using this method, you will be shown the last observation from the lodged Phonics diagnostic assessment, within the observation dates you selected.
  2. The Cohort snapshot analysis allows users to:

            a. view information about the selected Term, Week, Class or group


            b. Export the analysis to Excel or a PDF


            c. view the list of Indicators  


            d. filter the bar graph by Observation status

            e. view a stacked bar graph representation of the indicator status percentages

            f. view the numerical and percentage breakdown of each indicator status

How to view assessment information in PLAN2 Class observations

  1. The Class observations will be generated for you when you navigate to PLAN2 from the Phonics diagnostic assessment online tool. When you generate Class observations using this method, you will be shown the last observation from the lodged Phonics diagnostic assessment.
  2. The Class observations screen will display:

            a. your selected Class or group


b. the filtered sub-element level/s and progression indicators related to Phonics diagnostic assessment

your selected student/s


c. each student's progression indicator status for each of the selected progression indicators


d. you can download the Class observations information as Excel file using the Export button
