Note: When accessing the Areas of focus feature in PLAN2, we recommend using Chrome web browser for better user experience.


Contents:

From the Areas of focus screen:

  1. Select the PLAN2 link on the ALAN homepage to open the PLAN2 application.
  2. From the menu (three horizontal lines in the top right corner), select ‘Areas of focus’.

     
  3. The ‘Areas of focus’ screen will open. Click the ‘Existing’ tab.


  4. In the ‘Existing’ tab screen: 
    • Select Year and Class to view the list of existing Areas of focus for your selected class. If you have existing Areas of focus for your selected class or group, these will be displayed on the list. If you do not have an existing Area of focus, you can create a new one by clicking the ‘Create new area of focus’ button.
    • You can sort the list by date when the Area of focus was used, modified or created. 
    • You can search for a specific Area of focus by typing in a keyword in the search bar. The search will look for keywords in the Area of focus name and description, sub-element name, progression level, or syllabus outcome code.


  5. Select an Area of focus from the list. Details of your selected Area of focus will be displayed on right side of the screen. 
  6. On the Area of focus details, click the ‘Use to generate Class observations’ button. This will open the Class observations screen.


  7. In the Class observations screen: 
    • The Class observations table will display the data for the student(s), sub-element(s) and progression indicator(s) that are included in your selected Area of focus.


From Class observations:

  1. Select the PLAN2 tile on the ALAN homepage. PLAN2 will open on the Class observations screen. 
  2. Select Year and Class or group.


  3. Click the ‘Show Areas of focus’ button. If you have existing Areas of focus for your selected class or group, these will be displayed on the Class observations selection panel. If you do not have an existing Area of focus, you can create a new one by clicking the ‘Create new area of focus’ button.
  4. Select an Area of focus from the list. Details of your selected Area of focus will be displayed on the right side of the screen.


  5. Once you have selected the Area of focus you want to use, you can click the ‘Generate Class observations’ button to generate the Class observations data table.

    • Note: If you do not want to use an area of focus to generate Class observations, click the ‘Hide Areas of focus’ button then proceed with the Class observations steps as usual
